Sunday Rustin got home and we were waitin' in the driveway for him! We loaded up and made the drive to Mt Pleasant. The kids and I got breakfast and spent the morning drawing chalk in the parking lot while we waited for him to rise & shine.
Monday we made good time on the road and made an impromptu stop at the Louisianna Purchase State Park. Which was basically just boardwalks through the swamps but we saw mushrooms, woodpeckers, and LOTS of amazing trees. We finished up by driviung to Elizabethtown where we made Smore's and swam and ordered pizza for dinner. Overall a great driving day.
Tuesday was the Creation museum and it was less hands on that i was expecting but AMAZING. We had a 6 hour outdoor day and were the yougest people there by 60 years. There was a pretty realistic presentation of the life of Corrie Ten Boom which made me want to go read even more about her life. I was thoroughly impressed by the museum. It gave me ALOT to think about.
Wednesday it was time for the Ark! We had zero wait and got right on the bus that would take us there. It was awe inspiring. We sailed throught the first floor but the second slowed us down and got us thinking. By about 11 it was filling up and we were feeling rushed so we went over to the buffet for lunch. Afterward we went to the free fall & obstacle course. Molly chickened out of the free fall but everyone LOVED the obstacle course. Dinner was a little bar called Drakes which had the closest thing to a LONGHORN roll YUM! We worked on math while we waited for food and it was a great time. Topped off the night with a trip to Dave & Busters which turned out to be 1/2 price game night so we played FOR HOURS!
Thursday we went to explore the third floor. It was very thought provoking as well. things like their living quarters, gardening areas and even some things about the age of the earth in relation to the flood. LOTS TO THINK ABOUT Afterward we sent the kiddos to play while we listed to Ken Hamm's presentation about a Divided Nation. It was EXCELLENT. Before we left there were camel rides ON CAMELS NAMED mOSES & aARON, a ride on the caraousel and VR flood, and a buffet lunch. Afterwards we drove to Evans orchard to pick apples. But the U-Pick was closed so instead we went on a Hayride, did the corn maze and played in the play area.
Friday- drive to Bernheim for Giant Trail and Issac's lunch grown right in the gardens of the forest. Drive to Mammoth Cave and arrive just in time to buy longsleeve shirts for the Gothic Avenue tour. Our tour guide was a little much and we'd have prefered a DIY tour but we did see a live BAT and no one screamed when the lights went out.
Saturday we decided that we'd take the Natchez Trace Parkway home. Jackson Falls was our first hike. Then We stopped at Metal Ford and it was by far THE BEST! Clear water, wildflife, plants, and cannon learned to skip rocks! We also managed to find Meriweather Lewis' buiral site which was a huge surprise.
Sunday we decided to push on through and we did stop a few times but they were kinda blah after being at Metal Ford. Even the most photographed place on the parkway was just so so. But hey we can say we've been. Proud to say I did ALOT of the driving. Rustin really made the trip great & I'm thankful he went. It wouldn't have been the same without him. Overall it was the BEST trip. We learned aso much and I really feel like god has revealed things to us about his character andcreation through this trip.
